On Monday we suffered a full scale system overload due to onboard gig
ethernet adapters. We switched to a 3com PCI 3C905CX-TX-NM and most of the
problems have gone away.

We are still having problems where the processor will flatline at 100% for
between 1 and 3 minutes at a time. This happens primarily when the single
large list that we host (120 users) gets a message, about every 10 or 20
minutes. When the processor flatlines, users will have hangs of up to 60
seconds sending or receiving mail.

A call to Ipswitch resulted in the discovery that our logs contain about
1400 type 10054 errors on a daily basis. Ipswitch believes that all my
problems revolve around these 10054 errors, and that if I can get rid of
these errors, my processor max out problem will also stop. They recommended
a network sniffer called Ethereal to track down the cause of the 10054
errors.

We haven't the faintest idea of where to go with this problem, or what we
should do with the data that Ethereal gives us. Has anyone found a solution
that gets rid of these 10054 errors? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ted Beckwith
