Yo9u should exclude the users and spool directory from any real time virus
scanner and use one designed for email servers to scan mail as you will
likely get false positives and missed real ones due to the encoding of the
mail.

to answer you question, if these are "D" files then yes, they can be
individual or multi-recipient message bodies. to determine this you will
need to look at the corresponding "Q" or envelope files

Does anyone know if the SMD files are individual emails or can multiple
emails be spooled into one SMD.

the reason I ask is that the antivirus software running on the server
captures and quarantines these SMD files when a virus is detected.
