POP access works fine.
so the server+user+password syntax is ok on both ends.
My imail server is configured so that the primary domain is using the imail database with it's own ip. The virtual domains are using external database. Is this the issue?
which version of Imail? I don't remember which version of Imail allowed SMTP AUTH work with external db.
The odd thing is that Eudora AUTH worked fine for months on these virtual servers and then just stopped for every Eudora client.
yes, that indicates something changed centrally, rather than on all the Eudora clients.
The imail server has gone unchanged for a very long time. During the time that my local Eudora clients were working I had many reports of others not working.
The local success vs remote failure distinction is very weird. SMTP goes over tcp/ip and isn't transport-sensitive.
It's a shame that this isn't working.
no kidding! :)
I'd hate to have to suggest that people use Outlook Express because it AUTH's ok.
remote OE SMTP AUTH succeeds (using exactly the same account params), but remote Eudora 5.2 fails?
ah, wait, have you recently installed a new PIX or other firewall, (or activated SMTP proxy on an existing firewall?).
