Personally if I was in your place I would evaluate Exchange 2000 (or 2003 if
it comes out while you are evaluating.) If they want shared contacts (you
mentioned Act for Notes) then Exchange does that well. Also shared
calendars, delegation, etc. Symantec would probably give you a cross-grade
from Symantec for Notes to Symantec for Exchange. Exchange has connectors to
migrate from Notes.

I use Imail at home because I'm poor and since I'm an MCSE it would probably
be extra-unethical to steal Exchange and run my mail on it. If I had the $ I
would go with Exchange. If Exchange is out of your price range too then
Imail is nice, but you won't get delegation, shared calendars, or contact
management. Know that going in, and make sure your users don't have an
expectation of delegation ability. (Any important people with assistants?)

Another product worth looking at is iPlanet 6 from Netscape. I tested
iPlanet a lot because I work for AOL Time Warner. I really loved it. It has
one or two AOL-ish features like in webmail there is an icon showing if the
person that sent the email is online on AOL (and I think ICQ too.) iPlanet
rocks because it uses iPlanet directory server which is a real LDAP server
so you can use that LDAP for other apps in your company to authenticate
against.

Imail could do all the things that I mentioned it lacks if Ipswitch would
spend time on those features rather than adding antivirus and spam which
most people already had through Declude (a 3rd Party add-on) and Declude
does better than Imail.

Just my $0.02, but what do I know.. I'm just a lowly engineer at AOL Time
Warner.
