For one thing if someone wrote a bot that was checking an email account then
in theory if everyone emailed the bot then they could have the bot parse out
the Ips of all of the machines that emailed and they could use that for a
hosts list. 

Of course without email I could do the same thing if everyone joined an IRC
channel. You just need a mutual way of meeting that will reveal your IP
weather it be email or IRC or whatever.
