from what others have explained to me here... if running nt 4 domain you must have Imail on either pdc/bdc to use sam database If on Active Directory domain the Imail sever can be on any member server and use LDAP over to the AD user base.
Hope that helps. -----Original Message----- From: Ron Sokol [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2003 3:54 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] Move and Upgrade NT to 2K on new box. We are running an NT4 SP6a Domain controller with the Imail server as an NT4 BDC. Have a new Windows 2000 server, and would like to move Imail to it. I joined the 2000 server to the NT domain. Installed Imail v8.0 with the NT database option, but could not find my users. Then reinstalled Imail as Imail database, and copied the imail directory and registry file over, but had users without their current passwords. Is there a way to either convert our current NT server to an Imail database and preserve their current passwords, or have the new 2000 server get the NT database from an NT PDC? Looked at the free 'extract users' utility, but can't see the passwords from the text file it exports. Hmmm. If I convert to the imail db on the current (old) machine, would it preserve passwords? Thanks for your help.
