I am having a problem with messages retrying if the first try to send a message fails
(status=3). Basically, as far as I can tell, the queue manager never automatically
tries additional queue runs. Below I show the log of 2 messages as they pass through
my server. The first is trying to send to a roadrunner address that seems to be
having trouble with several of its mx servers, and the second returned an error to
retry later.

In both of these examples, the messages do get placed back in the queue for delivery
later on, but are never automatically sent. I have tracked many messages like these,
and even after 24 hours they do not resend. If I go to the Imail Web Administration
page (http://imail_Server:8181) and click on View Spool Directory, I can see them in
the Waiting Items section. If I click Send All the messages are usually sent
flawlessly on the retry (both the above examples were), and I get a message like this
in my log:

07:16 08:06 SMTP-(00000000) Info - Queue manager starting Queue run 1

Should I be seeing a message like that on regular intervals? I never see one unless I
manually click Send All.

The server is currently running Imail 8.01 (with HotFix 1 installed) along with
Declude for virus scanning. Below I list a brief history of the things that I have
tried to correct this problem, most at the recommendation of the ipswitch technical
support staff:

1.) Disabled DNS Caching and Failed Domain skipping as messages like the first example
might be automatically failed on future retries.
2.) Reinstalled Imail 8 and then Re-applied the 8.01patch and the subsequent hotfix.
3.) Verified all domains and their associated IP addresses in the system registry to
ensure they match.
4.) Lowered the Retry Timer in the Queue Manager to 25 minutes.
5.) Increased the number of Retry Threads to 30.
6.) Disabled Declude completely (used smtp32.exe for delivery), but since then have
reactivated it.
7.) Contacted ipswitch technical support numerous times regarding this problem. At
this point they would like me to deactivate declude again for 24 hours and send them a
whole days log. I am unable to do this as I cannot leave my customers vulnerable to
viruses (On a typical day we block over 5000 virus infected messages, and for this
reason the General Manager is apprehensive about deactivating this for over an hour at
a time).

Everything else appears to be running normally. We had 2 instances where the queue
manager stopped sending messages, but after 8.01HF1 I have not seen that particular
problem return.

Any help would be apppreciated. Thanks,
Robert A. Fairburn III
