Subject: [IMail Forum] mailbox index file questions

Issue: I need to sync a group of "main" mailboxes for a group of users that
mistakenly had IMail mail boxes collecting internal and external mail at 2
different locations for a few minutes.

Preferred approach: I'd like to manually cut and paste the un-synk'd
messages into the current user files, including the header info of course.
(I don't want to forward the mail from a mail client).

Questions: I have some general questions about how the mbx and index files
work that revolve around this issue.

1) The way I (mistakenly?) understand things is that there is an index file
that is a collection of records for each email that records stuff like the
internal file location (relative file byte count begin and end location) of
each email, if it has been read, what the header info is, ect. Is this true?

2) If question 1 is true, is the index used with web, pop, and imap
services?

3) If question 1 is true, what is the index file's name?

4) If I manually add emails to the end of a .mbx file will IMail get unhappy
(I am worried about corrupting the index files)?

5) If I delete the index file, will it regenerate automatically (missing the
read/unread email data I guess).

Thanks!
Clay
