I think this hits the mail on the head.

Of course, most don't care if AOL gets any legit mail either, since, by
their OWN definition, they are a home user (consumer) system only.  Business
users need "real" email with their own domain names and not a home account
(unless running their resume out to competing companies).  Home users are
apparently willing to miss 30-50% of their legit mail in order to remove 99%
of the spam and will be happy (if ignorant) using AOL.
