MX Records:

IN MX 1 imail.duda.com
IN MX 10 exchange1.duda.com

Say "mx 1" is down, Exchange is set up as backup MX for Imail's domains?

service on the exchange server and restarted the services on Imail. At the
moment there is only one user in my exchange store. [EMAIL PROTECTED]

if you telnet to .11, can you send mail to user01 (I bet not)?

So, Imail does in-session VRFY of recipient, before accepting the mail anyway? That's a good way to really slow down incoming mail. :))

If Imail is going to accept the mail for every recipient anyway, why bother with the in-session VRFY?

yet another Imail peering issue:

How would Imail peers react in a dictionary attack? Every peer would accept every message for every (unknown) recipient, queue it (perhaps 1000's of non-deliverable msgs) and then try to deliver to all the other peers, and fail, and then generate a mailer-daemon msg to the (probably bogus) sender, another non-deliverable msg in the queue. hmm, with peering having "features" like that, who needs vulnerabilities?? :))

for [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Your apparently only problem: why won't Exchange accept the mail for the user01? If "At the moment there is only one user in my exchange store. [EMAIL PROTECTED]" ? Exchange doesn't think so.

I also read some post which I forgot to note, that stated this is an
impossible situation it is will never work.

it "should" work

I seem to believe it is.

Just go figure why Exchange won't accept mail for user01.

So my question is quit simply, have I simply forgot to do something

apparently not

or should I work at this from another angle.

not until you figure out why Exchange won't accept mail for user01.
