After some poking around with webmail, trying diufefrent combinations of
folder and message counts, this is what I find:

1) The 'poor performance' problem ONLY appears when you have a large number
of MBX files(i.e. more than 10 or 15).

2) It does NOT seem to matter what size the MBX files are or how many
messages they contain. You can have 10 folders with a 50-100 megs each and
the login/initial display is quite fast.

3) If however, you add in another 10 mbx files with 0-100kb each,
performance starts hurting real bad. Add another 10 MBX files, it gets
worse, etc... Once you get to a hundred MBX files, it pretty much takes 30
seconds to log in.

4) I noticed that each mbx file's UID file gets updated at login and
refresh. I'm not sure if this is an issue but seems like a waste of time.
This should only be done prior to accessing the folder and listing it's
contents.

I don't know if this helps anybody, but it might help explain why some folks
say webmail is speedy and other claim it is slow.

I'm curious, of the folks complaining of performance problems, how many
folders (MBX files) do you have in the problem accounts?
