What kind of throughput does Declude have? Can it process over a million messages per day?
We would not recommend using it on a server that is processing a million E-mails per day. We do have customers that are processing over 500,000 E-mails per day, but at those volumes, you have to be very aware of every little detail about the server. At 1,000,000 E-mails per day, IMail and Declude have just over 2.5 seconds to process each E-mail. If the average delivery time exceeds that temporarily, E-mails will back up until the average delivery time goes below 2.5 seconds. That isn't a lot of time to wait for the results from DNS-based spam databases. Playing with the number of delivery processes can help, but also risks running into the Microsoft "Mystery Heap" crash.
At 1,000,000 E-mails/day, I would recommend having at least 2 gateway servers in front of the primary server. Those two gateways will each have less than half the load, as they don't have other overhead of dealing with mailboxes, web messaging, and whatever else the IMail server may be doing.
