No, but...

...even  if  you  could  use  a  maildir-style format, a single 600 MB
mailbox  could  split  into  600,000 individual files, assuming 1K per
message.  It's  inconceivable  that any filesystem would be happy with
such a layout!

One option, as Gerry said, is to sort some messages on the server side
in  hopes  of  at  least getting *some* static long-term mail storage;
David's  opinion  that  mailboxes of that size are just plain wrong is
also  valid,  though not always enforceable. But, not matter what else
you do, you have to realize that message stores are always in flux and
plan  your  mail  backup  strategy accordingly. A 10GB daily backup is
just a hiccup if you have up-to-date equipment (AIT, DAT, DLT, Travan,
whatever) dedicated to the task.
