Aha -- good work in catching that. The "disable recursion" forces the DNS server to only return DNS information that it knows about (for zones that it is authoritative for), so that would explain what is happening. IMail checks the MX record, and gets an error of some sort, and then tries the A record. Since one of the DNS servers is allowing recursion, if IMail hits that DNS server, it will get the A record back.


This is very useful information to know -- hopefully I will remember this if it comes up again. :)
