I do this all the time, and it's not too hard.  First, rename the directory
to the new userid.  Then create the new userid in IMAIL. IMAIL will
recognize the directory and attach it to the user. Then delete the old
userid.

It  still must be done at the Registry level. It's the Primary Key for
the account, and the GUI doesn't let you change that.
