I am currently running a P3 733Mhz with approximately 700K messages per day. At the moment I don't run the AV, but am running the antispam and see a typical CPU load of approximately 20 to 25%. I have 7K mailboxes.

FYI, we have customers who are able to scan as much as about 500,000 E-mails/day on a single IMail server (both virus and spam scanning). While that load requires a lot of computer knowledge (setting up partitions well, defragmenting, RAID, network troubleshooting, etc.), it can be done. In general, a single 500MHz CPU should be able to handle virus scanning, spam scanning, and general IMail operations on up to about 50,000 E-mails/day. That is without spending a lot of time configuring the server correctly.
