Corruption problem only happens at one point... A clean copy residing on the Imail server that is then retrieved by POP3. In this process is where 1/4 of the images receive various levels of corruption.
It's time to try a new LAN card.
We once had a LAN card that ended up being the cause of some mysterious problems -- which included corrupt .jpg/.gif's when web browsing. Some files would FTP fine, but others would not. The same FTP file would either always download fine, or never download fine, indicating that some combination of bytes was triggering the problem. We finally tracked it down with a packet sniffer that proved that with certain combinations of bytes, a bit would get flipped. Replacing the LAN card fixed the problem.
