When my mail server receives an email to someone who is no longer a user, or never was a user, instead of bouncing the email

It really helps to use the right terms:

"bounce" is what a delivering MTA experiences when the receiving MTA "rejects" a msg.

An MTA that refuses mail to unknown recipients does a "reject" (or should), preferably immediately after RCPT TO: command.

, it's been processed.

what is "processed"? MTAs receive and send msgs over SMTP.

It was brought to my attention that a "Nobody" alias would cause this behavior.

nobody@<imail> (evilly) kills the "reject unknown user" policy, since "nobody@" accepts all recipients.

They should have called that Imail alias function "anybody@<Imail>".

I have checked in the Alias folder for "Nobody" (starting to sound like a bad Abbot and Costello routine) but can't find anything that resembles a "Nobody" alias.

hmm, most IMGates that I install for Imail ISPs require the Imail admin to turn off nobody (sooner or later). It's amazing how so many Imail admins can't find their nobody aliases, or even swear they don't have one, but they really do. So I say "look again".

This really hasn't been a concern until now, when I am being hit really hard with this MyDoom virus, which is sending email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], etc. and these emails to non users are being processed, scanned, quarrantined, etc.

ah, yep, that's what we'd call (totally wasted) "processing".
