ya, the username is user%realm.tld, using '%' instead of '@' because well Outlook Express has issues with @ in the username
ive never had a problem with @ in username but anyhow lets try a couple other things::
is this the "main" host? if no is it ip or virtual?
try this, place this in a bat file and send to customer. change the obvious lines. have the customer place it in root of c, then go to commanf line and call the bat file. If this gets thru most likelt outlook is to blame.
telnet 'mail.yourserver.tld' HELO 'yourserver.tld' MAIL FROM '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' RCPT TO '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' RCPT TO 'your email address' RCPT TO 'postmaster or othjer 3rd party' DATA This is a test message. If i get this email is working Thank you. . QUIT

He has SMTP authentication enabled and we've tried specifing the username/password and using the same one as for his pop account. He receives this error no matter who he sends to, me, himself or somebody outside my server.
I have other users who connect through DSL, cable, other ISPs and they
all
use SMPT authentication just fine.
