I want to implement SSL for our mail server, but not sure what steps to take. I know I have to make a SSL certificate and turn SSL on in IMail, but what next? I want to require SSL connections for all clients, Win 95 Win XP. If I force SSL what will that do to the clients and how will that affect the response time for Webmail?
IMail only offers SSL for web messaging.
For SMTP or POP3 connections, you would need to run an SSL tunnelling program (such as http://www.stunnel.org ). Also, it is important to remember that even if you use SSL for clients connecting to the mailserver, connections to other mailservers will not use SSL. Therefore, only E-mail from local users to other local users would be secure.
