Is there a way to
change Exim's response codes?
We have an Exim
server that once in a while gets overloaded (CPU 100%) and starts sending out
"554 Transaction failed, No space left on device". This causes all the remote
servers to bounce mail without retrying. This server is our gateway for outbound
mail and also our MX is pointing to it. Once it starts replying with 554, we are
losing inbound and outbound mail.
I am wondering if
there is a way to change the Exim server to send out a 4xx reponse code instead
of 554 so that the remote servers would retry later instead of bouncing
mail.
