I know this is probably not the place for this, but I know you all are very experienced with IMail.
We're looking to get an AV Scanner add on to IMail. I see IPSwitch sells their own, plus I've also noticed MXGuard and Declude. I was wondering what you guys would recommend, or just what you guys used. I only have about 80-90 users, so I don't want to go too heavy duty.
A lot depends on your needs (for example, we have 3 different mailserver AV products -- all of them catch all known viruses, but for various reasons most people go with Standard or Pro versions). Some people are content with IMail rules to block attachments that are known to be dangerous, such as .exe files -- it's far from ideal (it requires that you be OK blocking legitimate attachments, and that you accept the occasional false positive and false negative).
If you're looking for top-of-the-line, you'll want to consider Declude Virus Pro (with such features as the ability to use up to 5 different virus scanners, detection of all viruses in .PIF files, better performance, per-user settings, etc.). If your needs are less, you'll likely want to consider one of the other options (the other two Declude Virus products, or the other products that are out there). With mailserver AV software, though, it's important to trust the company that you are purchasing it from -- decoding E-mails is something that needs to be done very carefully (it took years for Ipswitch to properly decode most MIME segments, for example), and knowing about all mailserver AV vulnerabilities takes experience. The last thing you want is to purchase AV protection, and find that you have to wait a long time for an upgrade before you can detect a new virus.
