Subject: [IMail Forum] POP problems

From time to time I have noticed that when you set up a virtual post
office that sometimes users cannot get access to the post office by using
POP. They can access the account from the web interface though.

With over 125 post offices on my server I sometimes see this and my usual
fix has been to delete the post office and rebuild it.

This last week I set up 2 post offices and both of them have the same
problem of not allowing POP access.

I tried to access from Outlook Express, Outlook, and Eudora and none of
them can attach with the error that the user or password is invalid.

This is obviously not the case as I can access the accounts via web access.

Anybody have any ideas on what may be causing this and how it can be fixed
other than deleting and rebuilding the post office?

1. Check registry security/rights for those users. I have read on here
that some people limit registry security rights to prevent POP access.
2. Confirm that the registry is indeed looking the way it should for the
domain. Have Ipswitch run the reg utility on your hive.

I would normally just go through the exercise but this time one of the post
offices has received plenty of email that they want to keep on the
server. I can keep it by moving the users databases and moving them back
after a rebuild but it would be nice to know why it happens and if there is
a easier way to fix it.

Thanks...

Mark
