Actually,
I think the problem is with the Intel NIC's or maybe with just the NIC's on ANY Dell machine. I have had numerous problems with regular users (Win98, Win2kPro, WinXPPro) losing connectivity to the network. It just drops away and will come back on its own sweet time. The type of hub/switch does not seem to matter either.
I have found that changing the speed of the NIC from Auto to either 100/full or 100/half resolves the problem. One a couple of systems we even changed it to 10/full or 10/half and the user said how much "faster" their network connection seemed.
That is of course after checking/changing patch cables, ports, jacks, etc....

That's the only thing you can do. We've dealt with this for years. Ipswitch refuses to admit it, but their software should come with a Hardware Compatibility List. Imail is simply not compatible with certain Intel NICs (as well as Imail and many Gbit NICs). They really should tell users this upfront as there is a quite large population of servers with OB Intels and Gbit NICs.
