As an additional side note to my earlier post I am receiving in the log a "reconnect" or "retrying service" as a result of using an IP for my BL.
I think you were given poor advice -- you should *not* enter any IP associated with a spam database (except the return value, such as 127.0.0.2) into the IMail v8 anti-spam settings. Specifically, anti-spam software should never be given the IP address (or hostname) of the NS records for a spam database. Although IMail should in theory be able to connect to it, you may quickly be denied access to the spam database (as it would bypass DNS caching that is necessary to keep the traffic down for the spam databases).
