Hve you tried other mail cleints. Like mozilla to see if the problem goes away? That will help determine if it is outlook or imail???
If your mail client is corrupting the attachments then change mail clients or do as Eric says and reload the system checking after each individual Crytical update which ne is the problem corrupting the attachements. Also what AV is running on the client. Is the AV running an outlook in or a pop3 proxy. Yoy may want to turn off integerated pop3 AV scanning to see if that is the problem????
