Well, the problem was that it was happening to several different domains. I think that among other things our new WatchGuard firewall was creating a problem too.
Ah, that could do it -- the WatchGuard firewalls have a nasty bug in their DNS Proxy that can cause sporadic DNS problems. If you have the DNS Proxy enabled, you should disable it.
