I am using Symantec Antivirus for SMTP Gateways as a front end.
Unless Sym AV has gotten smart, this is a really stupid setup.
The MX must be able to reject mail to unknown recipients. Can Sym AV do that?
With spam running at 75% to 95% of all inbound, all reject policies should be applied first, by the MX, and then only the accepted mail handed to the expensive content-scanning programs like SymAV.
I have the SMTP setting for Imail set to send all remote mail to remote gateway. What I need is a way to have all mail generated from inside my organization (cconnect.net) that is destined to my organization, ie inside mail, to be sent through the same antivirus gateway.
Imail should be set to no mail relay (or relay for the tiniest number of IPs that can't do SMTP AUTH, then all users must submit their mail to Imail under SMTP AUTH.
I figured someone one this list has already figured this one out. Yesterday I received an email from one of my customers that contained a virus. I looked at the header information and it did not pass through the gateway.
what did it pass through? the customer should have submitted his mail to his mail server, that should have sent to your MX hostname.
