I do plug for Scott as I have very much enjoyed the Declude Virus and Junkmail tools, however I don't know of anything that the Declude tools do to protect against this specifically.
I've heard good things about Postfix/IMgate in dealing with these, though. I believe most people set up a second MX as a gateway and hide the primary. The second MX handles the load of the dictionary attack (perhaps with some tarpitting or other DOS protection), keeping the main POP/SMTP server protected from the dictionary attack. Some other mail servers seem to have tarpitting built in to assist in dealing with dictionary attacks. Good Anti-Spam software. Declude seem to be a favorite around here. And I RARELY plug for Scott. Yes on the deleting the orphaned files. Check the headers. The bulk mail is most likely in the correct box and they are both getting it because of a dictionary attack. In my spool directory, I have several subdirectories, 2 of which are /virus and /web. I think the /virus sub is for declude and the /web sub is for Imail's webmail app. Is this correct? And can I delete files in these directories if they are more than 1 week old (including the .tmp, .smd files and other attachments)? 2. I have a user that is receiving some bulk mail sent to another user. Their usernames are very close to each other (e.g., nsmith and nsither). Any ideas why?
