Now I'm unable to read mails in my folders. I'm able to read the mail in the my inbox. If I, for an example, wants to save a mail to Drafts (or Sent) my mail client says "Mail server responded: Not a directory"..

Did that update create an /etc/c-client.cf file?

If so, try deleting it and see if that makes things work better. Some "sorcerer's apprentices" make distribution packages that install such files, without understanding that such files break many existing systems.

If that does not solve the problem, try building the unmodified imap-2006 from
        ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/mail/imap.tar.Z
and install it. See if that makes things work better.

If not, please contact me directly and I'll assist you in getting back online.
