The current release version is 2006c1; and there's a 2006d development snapshot. Either one would be better to use than 2006b.

To answer your question:

stream->sparep is a void* pointer on the MAILSTREAM reserved for application usage. There are also eight bits stream->spare through stream->spare8 which are also reserved for application usage.

ENVELOPE and BODY structures also have a sparep. Elts have a sparep and spare through spare8 bits.
