Let me add that this problem did not occur on a similar server with the same Debian version including most recent upgrades. So I believe this must be caused by a local configuration issue, of perhaps the MTA. Not properly converting linefeeds? I understand this could out of the scope of this list, but as I said perhaps someone has a simple solution.
