Kevin Johnson's book is to be used to help you understand the specification.
It is not the specification.  The specification is RFC 2060.

The *only* type of incomplete command is when there is a literal, and the
*only* split is the split between the literal count and its data.  There is NO
"chunking" of any kind.  Nor is there any type of string concatenation.
