Dear Ken

> I need to know the truth. Is it as bad as it looks?

No, not as bad as it sounds. Remember when you read the list that this
is just an indication of issues people are having (I'm one that has
winged on the site) but doesn't always show up the many successes people
are having. It is a balance thing.

As Geoff said, some people have created some amazing stacks in just one
night or so! (I'm hoping to contribute one day but still learning,
inching along when I get home from work...) Three that just pop off the
top of my head: Geoff built the incredibly useful Manual RTFer; Sean
built an amazing Mail client (in the Starter Kit!) and Chipp built an
auto-updating stack (sorry to others, that's just what comes to mind).

You will find that Transcript is HUGE in comparison to the HyperCard and
offers a rich feature set. You can really build a stand-alone that
works: I have, I was very pleased. If you do the cross-grade from HC
you get a great deal, (I think it is still running and no, I don't work
for Rev).

There are issues with Rev but overall you might find that the benefits
greatly outweigh the issues, it really make it worth the effort to
change. Revolution is based on MetaCard engine, an engine that has been
around for 10 years?? (not sure on that) but is pretty stable.
Revolution is the missing element in the pie: it is the Runtime/
authoring environment that sits on top of it and draws out the power of
the engine.

Rev has tons of features too and it is really amazing that it was built
entirely in Transcript! Take a second to think about that. The
statement is: "you can build your own app with the tools you are using
here, you are experiencing one right now". That just wasn't possible in
HyperCard. (SuperCard got part of the way there, but not totally built
in the environment, if I remember correctly?).

And when you build your app, the runtime environment Rev disappears.
Rev is just getting better and better: 1.1 has now lots and lots of new
Net and database power, OSX, transparency etc.

Hope I didn't bore you with the rave, it is just a balance to my earlier
post with some frustrations I was having. It's a balance thing.
