I asked the use-revolution list the following question (Mon, 7 Jan 2002):

>In Revolutionn on a Mac, with or without help from external commands,
>how can I play an arbitrary list of several different, brief (<250
>ms) sounds so they are presented as a rapid (at least 4/second),
>regular SEQUENCE.

I tried, without success, suggestions offered by Scott Rossi and Geoff
Canyon. The problem is apparently NOT with the general method (whether one
uses the 'send', the "playstopped" message, the "wait until done", or "wait
x milliseconds). If Revolution cannot buffer at least one sound, so that it
can load and queue one sound while another is playing, then I don't think
it can play a sequence of different sounds at a consistent and reliable
rate. Whenever the play command is issued, there's a variable and
unpredictable delay before the sound actually begins playing, so timings
are always more or less irregular. This pause is worse on slower computers
and maybe on Macs, but it is always a problem in my work. Evidently,
Revolution/Metacard cannot accomplish what I've been doing in my memory
research.for more than 12 years using HyperCard and SuperCard.

I am very disappointed and frustrated at how crippled the audio
capabilities of Revolution are.

Scott Rossi mentioned (in use-revolution ) that he had "argued over the
years that having the MetaCard folks maintain control over sound within MC
would be much better than handing off audio support to QuickTime. QT does
have some advantages for playback, but seamless playback of multiple clips
is not one of them."

Does Revolution/MetaCard have any plans to improve its audio, or am I just
wasting my time?

Regards,
Scott Saults
