Just a wild conjecture but are you, Peter also running OS 9 on your 'old' G3, like Ted? I am running OS 8.6 on an even older G3 with a 266 MHz processor but I have NO backdrop problem - I was warned NOT to run OS 9 on my G3 but wait until I could upgrade to a G4. As I say - just a wild conjecture!
