Yep, you are right Troy, however the version of Flash embedded in QT4 is Flash 4 and suffers from a massive lack of programming control and other issues related to being a 'layer' inside QTime (and apparently a nasty memory leak, although I haven't experienced it yet). It is quite frustrating to try and get any sort of functionality out it, other than a few moving graphics. Also we are looking to 'ship with a skip' with a skip QTime install for Windows boxes; Windows users shouldn't have to do a massive QT install just to run my little app, but that's another matter... Hey Ben, not sure what you mean here, do you mean somehow play Flash directly, without using the plug-in? I guess QTime is played from within Rev directly, so are you suggesting a Flash QTime-like addition to the palette, simply drag and drop a Flash player object? That to me sounds like a great idea, as I'm sure there are overhead and compatibility issues with the plug-in path. Would that mean licensing issues? Not sure, however since Macromedia is truly trying to make Flash all pervasive -- I now have Flash installed on my vacuum cleaner's display controlled by my LG air conditioner )-@ -- I'm sure licensing is probably less of an issue, although I truly don't know. > The result was great - much more functionality than we > could have achieved by doing it ourselves - and the time we'd spent was > instead generally useful. Sounds like it was well worth it, and possibly fun too. Out of interest, how long did the play-plug-in it take from start to finish? > And yes, the Flash plug-in would be an excellent initial test case to > work > with, since (a) it would be very useful and (b) because of the > capability to > pass data back and forth, it would exercise a lot of the issues. Agree! Hopefully we would see the major plug-ins work as if they were playing from within IE, but I could see a case for a native Flash-only solution too, thinking back to the Netscape/Explorer plug-in issues of past. 'Well, it kinda works in IE, but best in Netscape.' or 'Best played in IE, you risk isolation in Netscape'. Flash with Rev would be a formidable combination, particularly with some communication between them! So one tiny problem... who can we convince at Rev/MC to put this <high> on the wish list? Anyone else care to comment? (We are on the less-traffic area of Rev list).
