...hope that this list is still functional.

I've previously used Norm with no problems, but am now getting
strange errors when opening a new data file. The file is fairly large
- about 40 variables and 165,000 records. The error says something
along the lines of "access violation" the instruction at address
1c00e277 attempted to write to location ...."

We've messed around with the original file to delete a number of the
variables and this has worked somewhat - but the very strange thing
is that Norm will properly work to open one of these modified data
files and then if we retest with the exact same data set the error
will re-occur. ...even on the same computer. There is some mention in
Norm of ram limitations, but this is a top-of-the-line machine with 2
gigs of ram - we've also tested on other machines running XP and
W2000, but are running into the same problem.

There may be some strange values in the original data, because we
haven't yet cleaned it up, but I don't see how any of these things
could be causing the problem. We've tried to import the data both by
creating it as a tab-delimited and a space-delimited file with the
same results. We've double checked and the data contain no string
variables and all system missing values were set to -99. ...we've
even changed the missing value code with no help. All of the sample
data sets open fine. Again, sometimes creating the text data set
(from an original spss data set) from a smaller set of saved
variables works, but we haven't found any particular variable that is
causing the problem when included.

...anyone have any idea of what might be going on?

Thanks

Jeff
