R-IVEware
(Remote usage of IVEware, Version 0.1 )

There are many situations where the data sets reside in one location and the
analyst in a different location who wants to perform the analysis of data but
cannot download data to his/her location and /or they do not have SAS installed
on their local machine. These could be people working from home, in different
buildings or living in different city or even country. There are several
reasons for data to remain in one central server/location: To avoid duplication
of data sets at various locations, confidentiality and privacy concerns and
data use/software licensing restrictions.

The R-IVEware, is the modification of IVEware package that allows analyst from
any location to submit the commands via web interface to a “web server”, the
analysis is then carried out by the “compute server” and the the analysis
output is then e-mailed to the user. The web server manages the login, provide
access to relevant information for the user to develop the IVEware script and
submit the analysis request. The analysis is then carried out by the compute
server and the result is sent back to the user via e-mail associated with the
particular login.

The user in the remote location does not need any software installed and can
use any standard web interface such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari,
Google Chrome etc. The webserver and compute server can be in the same machine
or in two different machines. The R-IVEware requires the standard Linux
operating system on both compute and web servers. The computer server should
have SAS installed.

The installation of R-IVEware requires administrative privileges and
considerable knowledge of the computing architecture where the R-IVEware will
be installed. The IT person manages the login access as well as tailor the
access of the data sets to each user. For example, the login may be time
limited and not all data sets may accessed by each user. Thus, R-IVEware
provides considerable flexibility in carrying out the analysis of data. With
Describe, Impute, Regress and Sasmod modules, R-IVEware can be used to analyze
data from observational and experimental studies and from sample surveys. If
you are interested in trying this out for your organization please have your IT
person contact via e-mail at [email protected].
