You can print from iPhone directly to a LAN-connected AirPrint-enabled printer. A list of these printers is available here: http://ipod.about.com/od/usingios4/f/Airprint-Compatible-Printers.htm
But, if you already have a good, reliable, working printer, then install an app on your Mac, which will allow you to print to the connected printer by making it look like an AirPrint printer on your iPhone. I use one such app, Printopia, for this purpose.
