You can print from iPhone directly to a LAN-connected AirPrint-enabled printer.

But, if you already have a good, reliable, working printer, then install an app 
on your Mac, which will allow you to print to the connected printer by making 
it look like an AirPrint printer on your iPhone. I use one such app, Printopia,
