Hello Alan and Gilles,

urtw driver was released to OpenSolaris last week, I am responsible engineer for this driver. Before upgrade your system to build105+, please insert the adapter into your system and post output of:
#echo "::prtusb" |mdb -k
I can then help you idenfity your adapter.

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Alan, Gilles,

If your wireless device is RTL 8187L then you are in luck and can use the urtw driver.

http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/wireless/urtw/

Note that for that driver you need snv105+

Now, if you happen to have RTL 8187B then you are out of luck :( and need to wait for someone to write the driver. Both 8187L and 8187B use USB2.0

Regards,
Imran

So actualy, maybe somebody on indiana-discuss can answer the "is the
driver available" part of this question? :)

Cheers and happy new year,
Gilles.

Hi, Alan!

Do you notice that it also identified as a USB 2.0 adaptor on that OS
(Windows?)? So it really is connected through USB 2.0...

"Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adaptor"...
seems pretty clear to me.

Hello Gilles,

Yes, I'm sure that my Wireless Card it's a Realtek RTL 8187, look:

And, I have my wireless card into my motherboard, not external.

Hi!

So first things first... Is your wireless card REALLY a Realtek RTL
8187 based chip?

Second... on many laptops, the USB bus is used to connect various
internal devices (like SD card readers) so why not a WiFi chip. USB
2.0 bandwidth at 480 Mb/s is much more than the 54 Mb/s of 802.11g
these days, and just good enough to cover 802.11n... so no reason
not to. :)

Gilles.

Hello everyone,

I just finished installing the latest version of OpenSolaris,
everything it's fine, the installation was very easy but when I
opened the Device Driver Utility, I saw that my Wireless Card was
recognized as a "USB Device" and when I try to configure a network
connection, my wireless card doesn't appears in the Connections
tab. Why occurs that?

Also, in each OpenSolaris version that is released, I don't have
support for my network device...Some suggestions?

Or..What can I do for change the Driver of my wireless card, for
use it to connect to the Web?

I've enclosed to this email the screenshot of the Device Driver
Utility.

Please...help me!

Alan Vargas
