Hi,
my first impression of the new package repository is just one:
disorder.
Files are spread all over the
place: /etc/apache, /usr/apache, /var/apache and so on and on.
May I ask why and what advantages this layout is supposed to offer?
With this new system if i want to run an executable I have to specify
the full path because
/usr/PACKAGE/bin/ is not in the path; moreover if I want to have a
quick view of the package files I have to call "pkg contents" because
the files are not all in the same directory , e.g. not
in /opt/apache/ .
In my opinion the layout of packages in sunfreeware or in blastwave (a
bit less in this latter) is more reasonable, while the current state
of things looks more like the worst of both worlds.
Nico
