Perhaps the GNOME community has done something about this in 2.26,
but you'd need to ask desktop-discuss to find out, I'd guess.
I believe this is fixed in 2.26, but in the meantime, copying
pidgin.desktop to /etc/xdg/autostart or ~/.config/autostart is the
recommended solution, for all users or single users respectively.
