but the missing menu.lst is still preventing pkg image-update
from completing on SPARC, even as of snv124. Should one of
these bugs be reopened, or perhaps a new one made, or has
this actually been fixed?

What build are you attempting to run this image-update on when
going to build 124? Also can you send the output from the
following:
# export BE_PRINT_ERR=true
# beadm create newbe
-evan
