So if I understand correctly, if one uninstalls the IPS version of Thunderbird then pkg won't try to replace it, so there is an easy way to avoid this in the general case. And when a non-beta version of 3.0 makes it into IPS, then all one has to do is pkg install it after removing the beta. Elegant! Now how to get notified when 3.0 makes it into IPS?
