But if the file has multiple lines, those lines are fed to ifconfig as command-line options without modification.
IIRC if there is even a single line but with more than one keyword then entire line will be provided as options to ifconfig without adding any extra options automatically (so usually atleast netmask + broadcast + up is needed).
