Here is a reply from Katie ji: "It may, as you suggest, be the pubescence of the leaves added to the high atmospheric humidity which prevents their evaporation. Also, since the leaves of Euphorbia are full of turgid cells, the water does not get absorbed by osmosis, as would otherwise happen if the leaves were not so turgid. Cheers, katie"
