Ritesh Ji,

Thank you very much for confirming that this is not *P. effusum* and at the
same time suggesting that this could be a var. of *P. plebeium*.

In the field i missed the flower. Even i didn't think that it could be a *
Polygonum*, because i missed the ochrea too!

Of the varieties described in this thread i am left with two options - 1) *P.
plebeium* var. *micranthema* and 2) *P. plebeium* var. *elegans*.

According to F. B. I. -
(i) var. *micranthema* : leaves 1/4 to 1/3 in., obtuse; flowers very minute
pedicelled crowded in upper axils, pedicel often as long as the
perianth......
(ii) var. *elegans* : leaves 1/2 to 2/3 in., acute or acuminate; flowers
sessile or shortly pedicelled.....

According to Flora Indica - leaves of *P. elegans* are bifarious.

I am not sure if the leaves in this plant can be called bifarious.

So, i need to (1) revisit this plant and get some more clear shots and (2)
search if there could be any other variety of *P. plebeium*, not described
in the Bengal Plants.

Thank you once again.

Regards,

surajit
