Dear Muthu,
That is a form of the widespread and variable Arisaema leschenaultii. It is distributed throughout the southern states (Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu) and Sri Lanka and the most common Arisaema in S India. The form on the pictures is very close to the form of the holotype that was collected near Ooty. Local name I think would be "kidaran". Regards, Pascal From: J.M. This is commonly seen in the shades of wet forest fringes (roadsides and trails). I cannot take detailed photographs of flowers. I observed the leaves to be of about 25 cm across. The size of spathe ranges 15-20 cm (and spadix not more than 12 cm) Leaves with radiate leaflets (uniformly spreading from centre) Location: Kodanad, Nilgiris, TN Alt.: 1995 m asl Date: 20 June 2013 -- Muthu Karthick, N Care Earth Trust #15, second main road, Thillai ganga nagar, Chennai - 600 061 Mob: 0091 96268 33911 www.careearthtrust.org -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "efloraofindia" group.
