Green flowers of Ukshi go off unnoticed but the greenish – pink fruits turning brown are very attractive. |

Ukshi / Dhawsher
Scientific name: Calycopteris floribunda
Family: Combretaceae
A perennial, shrubby climber, frequently found in moist deciduous forests & degraded patches in high rainfall areas like Kokan & Sahyadri. It grows in association with other vegetation, on trees in dense patches while, forms clusters in open areas.
It has Yellowish green flowers in showy bunches during January February. Fruits are papery Green - Pink with persistent calyx when raw, turning Yellow Brown during May. Fruits are easily carried by wind.
Medicinal Uses: Roots, leaves, twigs, flowers, fruits are used in various diseases as medicine.
Cluster acts as anchoring places for fauna and flora to regenerate. |
